Western Star began operating in 1967 as White Western Star – a division of the White corporation, responsible for production at plants located in Kelowna (British Columbia, Canada).
History of the Western Star brand
In the first years of the brand’s existence, trucks from the production line were designed by the engineers of the parent company. The situation changed in 1981, when the company came under the control of the overseas adventure of the Volvo concern. The Swedes gradually introduced their own technical solutions to the produced vehicles, but the Kelowna plants produced their current range of models under their rule. In 1991, the Canadian branch became the property of a businessman from Australia named Terry Peabody, who controlled it for another decade and in 2001 sold the assets to Daimler AG North America. In 2002, production was moved to a new plant in Portland (USA, Oregon). In addition, some models have recently been assembled at the Daimler factory in Cleveland.
